The Level 1–2 ICW is a 3-day program which runs from September 17-19
The Level 1- 3 ICW is a 5-day program runs from September 17-21
Take advantage of working with two ACA Coastal Kayak Instructor Trainers – Josh Hall and Susan Kershaw. Josh is the chairman of the ACA Coastal Kayak Committee and an Instructor Trainer Educator in the coastal kayaking discipline. Josh is the Outdoor Program Coordinator for the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission. Sue is a Coastal Kayaking Instructor Trainer Candidate, an Open Water (Level 4) Coastal Kayak Instructor; and a co-owner of Sea Kayak Carolina.
The Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) is designed to develop coastal kayak instructors, and certify them at the appropriate level.

ACA Level 1 – Introduction to Kayaking
ACA Level 2 – Essentials of Kayak Touring
ACA Level 3 – Coastal Kayaking
The cost of the 3-day program is $350, the cost of the 5-day program is $550
Sea kayaks and other gear will be available for rent if needed. Lodging possibilities include camping at the James Island County Park, or hotels, B&Bs and motels in Folly Beach, downtown Charleston, or West Ashley.

Two Instructor Trainers for the price of one!
Sea Kayak Carolina is hosting an Open Water (Level 4) IDW. This 3-day program is focused on the development of potential coastal kayak instructors. Flatwater, semi-protected water and open-water components. (See below — Sea Kayak Carolina will be offering a follow-up Certification weekend on October 28, 29, 30.)
The cost of the 3-day program is $350.
Coastal kayak instructors wishing to meet requirements for renewal can attend Saturday and Sunday for a 2-day "update". The cost for the update is $250.
Sea kayaks and other gear will be available for rent if needed. Lodging possibilities include camping at the James Island County Park, or hotels, B&Bs and motels in Folly Beach, downtown Charleston, or West Ashley.

The American Canoe Association (ACA) offers skills courses to paddlers of all skill levels. The courses represent sets of skills, safety procedures and other materials deemed appropriate for particular paddling environments. Assessments by qualified trainers confirm skill levels and provide a basis for ongoing skills development.

ACA Coastal Kayak Instructor Development Workshops
and Instructor Certification Exams —
Who should consider an ACA IDW/ICE?
Kayak shop staff. Kayak outfitter staff. Kayak club officers. Kayak club trip leaders. Camp staff with kayak safety responsibilities. Any individual with kayaking experience looking to develop their skills and teaching abilities.

Level 1 – Introduction to Kayaking Instructor
Level 2 – Essentials of Coastal Kayaking Instructor
Level 3 – (Basic) Coastal Kayak Instructor
The Level 1-3 IDW/ICE is held on protected waters. A roll is required for Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructors, but not for Level 1 & 2 Instructors.
Level 4 is the Open Water Coastal Kayak Instructor level. Level 4 portions of the course will venture into ocean waters and conditions.
